*Why in some posts the ambience mic is pointing down (at 90°), while here they’re pointing at 180°? It depends on the mic’s polar pattern, but if you aim it towards the drum set (180°)—like in this image—you should get more drums, while if you point it at 90°, you should get more “room”. There’s no right or wrong, it depends on what you’re looking for.
