We know what drums Bonzo played, what cymbals… but what drumsticks did he play?

Those would be Promuco sticks.

John Bonham Signature Sticks

What’s Promuco?

In 1964, the British Professional Music Company (PROMUCO) started making drumsticks in Yorkshire, England. After a couple of years of local success, Buddy Rich caught on to the sticks and helped introduce them to the American market.

Subsequently, Promuco sticks came to the attention of a growing number of influential drummers, and it was during the early 70s that Bonzo had his own sticks commissioned by the British manufacturer.

These sticks were available through to the mid 1990s, until the company stopped manufacturing them in the early 2000s.

In January 2020 Promuco re-issued these sticks. Made to the same exacting standards as the 70s versions, these sticks have the same weight and dimension as originals, with an ‘acorn-shaped’ wood tip and all.

John Bonham Signature Sticks Specs:

  • Diameter: 1.5 cm (0.59 in.)
  • Length: 41cm (16.14 in.)
  • Wood: Hickory
  • Tip: Acorn - wood
